Undercooked meats can harbor bacteria that are dangerous for both mom and baby. Listeria bacteria is one that can actually survive in the refrigerator so deli meats are also a no-no. Make sure you’re meat is piping hot and fully cooked before you eat it.
2. Raw Eggs
Yes, this includes raw cookie dough and cake batter! Ceasar dressing, fresh mayonnaise, and hollandaise sauce are included in this because they are made with raw eggs.
3. Soft Cheese
Soft cheeses are made with pasteurized milk which may also contain harmful bacteria. Feta, brie, blue cheese, and queso fresco are a few examples of soft cheeses. However, you can still enjoy some parmesan shredded on your pasta as hard cheeses are safe to eat and are a good source of fats!
All raw fish are definitely on the no list for reasons mentioned above. This means no sushi for the sushi fans out there for the next nine months. Specifically sharks, tilefish, swordfish, and king mackerel contain high amounts of mercury. You are allowed to eat up two to three servings of fish low in mercury like canned tuna, salmon, cod, and catfish.
We all know that drinking alcohol when pregnant is definitely not allowed. Alcohol consumption during pregnancy could cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and a range of lifelong physical, intellectual, and behavioral effects on the baby.
The FDA reports that moderate consumption of caffeine does not pose a risk for the pregnant woman or the baby. The recommended maximum amount allowed is 200 milligrams of caffeine per day, equaling one 12 ounce cup of coffee per day. Remember that tea, soda, and chocolate also have caffeine in them!
